Genesis (Part 18)

This is “Part 2″ of Dr. Jeannie’s overview of the Old Testament.

We’re always looking for ideas to get the most out of Dr. Jeannie’s lessons. With this in mind, the following questions were provided by Marianna Sayeg from the Bible study group at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Cambridge, MA. These questions are related to both Genesis (Part 18) and Genesis – Abraham (Part 1).

Review Questions:

  1. Why did the Jews fall into idolatry so often in the Judges period? What was so terrible about their worship of other gods/idols? How did God punish them?
  2. How did the Jews become dividend into two Kingdoms? How were these Kingdoms different? What events led to the Jews living in diaspora?
  3. What events led to the Maccabean revolt? How did the Hasmonean dynasty come to an end?
  4. What historical facts do we know about Abraham? What stories about him are legends from Jewish pseudepigrapha?
  5. Was Abraham the first monotheist?
